Waterville Valley hires Jason Guilbert as JI /II Alpine Coach

The Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers Ski Educational Foundation (BBTS) in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire announced Friday that Jason Guilbert will take over as Head Coach of the program’s J1 and J2 alpine teams.

Guilbert has been a professional ski coach for the past 10 years.  His past employment includes: FIS coach for the Waterville/Holderness ski team from 1999-2001, J3 coach for Franconia Ski Club from 2003-04, and Head Coach and Snowsports Program Director from 2004-2009 for New Hampton School. Guilbert has worked with and coached several U.S. Ski Team and FIS-level athletes and traveled to competitions and training camps throughout the U.S. and internationally. He is a USSA certified coach and official.  He has an extensive racing background that includes attending and graduating from Waterville Valley Academy in 1992, competing on the UNH ski team from 1993-1997, competing in Nor-Am and FIS competitions and being a silver medalist in the Junior II Olympics.

Guilbert has a BS from the University  of New Hampshire and brings to the WVBBTS organization extensive knowledge and expertise on alpine racing technique and tactics, appropriate training progressions and racer management skills, a vast knowledge of alpine equipment and the ability to create a professional alpine training environment.

As the Head I and II Alpine Coach, Guilbert will assure that a full range of services are delivered to all full-time and weekend alpine athletes in an efficient and professional manner.  Some of his other responsibilities include scheduling and implementing the daily on-snow training, year-round athlete conditioning and racer management of WVA and NHS FIS-aged athletes as well as assisting the weekend JI /II athletes and coaching staff.

“We look forward to having Jason head up our I & II’s program with the knowledge and experience he carries with him,” said Peter Stokloza, BBTS CEO and Executive Director. “Jason is an integral part of the BBTS family and will be instrumental in helping us to achieve our yearly mission and overall vision.”

BBTS is a nationally recognized competitive snowsports organization that sponsors both weekend and academy programs for freestyle, alpine and snowboard athletes. BBTS currently operates Waterville Valley Academy and the Waterville Valley BBTS Ski Club. BBTS was recently recognized as the 2006 USSA Club of the Year and Snowboard Club of the Year and in 2009 it was recognized as “Freestyle Club of the Year”.

Jason, his wife Amanda, and their son Gunner live in Campton N.H.
