Four-time Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn returned to gate training Sunday with a giant slalom session on Vail’s Golden Peak.

Vonn, who has been slowed by illness for over a week, made the decision to begin gate training after a brief freeskiing session on Saturday. Her training status is day-to-day and no decision has yet been made on a possible start during the Nov. 24-25 Nature Valley Aspen Winternational.

“This was her first time in gates since Soelden and she hasn’t lost any of her skills,” said tech coach Roland Pfeifer. “Her skiing was right there. Obviously she has a lack of energy, but now it’s a matter of how fast she’s able to recharge her battery. … We are day by day right now and will not make a decision yet on whether or not she can start Aspen. She is in a very good mood and she is so happy to be back.”
