At the end of the most successful season of his career, Marcel Hirscher undertook a special project as a thank you to his fans. At Reiteralm, the 26 year old utilized a specially prepared slope to create color fireworks, and the end product has been blowing up the internet for the past two days.

“This event is the perfect gift for a gifted season,” Hirscher said of the run. “The course, which the boys have prepared here especially for this project is for a slalom slope very steep,” beamed the four-time overall World Cup winner. “At the top we have almost 75 percent slope and also the last part where it goes through the trees in the middle, has it all! In terms of ski racing, I have never experienced anything like this. “

The course set by head coach Michael Pircher was also dipped in color to create a very unique effect without risking damage to the area. Respect for the environment was a priority from the beginning of the project, and the plants and wildlife were neither been damaged nor disturbed at any time during the project. All materials for the color effects were 100 percent natural, and the team obtained agreement by the local authorities.

“It was not easy to ski the speed I usually bring along in the race,” Hirscher acknowledged. “On every gate I was blind for a fraction of a second! In a moment you ski through a dense fog of blue and yellow, the next you have absolutely clear sight again.”

Despite the challenges, it’s a video Hirscher is particularly proud of for his role in helping to create.

“We tried new, cool things in the skiing and retaining them in brilliant images,” said Hirscher. “I think we succeeded.”
