Olympian Tommy Ford grabbed the attention of the U.S. Ski Team after the Bend, Oregon native locked up four gold medals at the 2006 U.S. Junior Championships. That proved to be a good look, because Ford went on to score World Cup points in his rookie season and then grab a spot on the 2010 Olympic team for giant slalom.

But Ford sat out the entire 2014 Olympic season while recovering from a major injury suffered in a freeskiing crash in France toward the end of the 2013 winter. That didn’t stop him from fully applying himself in both injury recovery and education. Ford went back to Dartmouth and completed his studio art major and also had a sculpture on display in the Metropolis Art Exhibit there. He’s put in a hard summer of work in Park City at the Center of Excellence and is looking forward to his official return on snow with the national team this month in Chile. SkiRacing.com caught up with him earlier in the summer at the 2014 USSA Partner Summit where he revealed his solid plan for a return to the top.
