Super-G Olympic champion Anna Veith has ended her season prematurely and will not compete at the final World Cup races in Switzerland, South Korea and the U.S. The Austrian’s exit is due to a prolonged and chronic inflammation of the patellar tendon in the left knee, which must be treated surgically at the advice of her doctors.

On Tuesday, Anna Veith will be operated on in the private clinic of Hochrum by Dr. Christian Hoser.

“This surgery is the only way to be able to ski again without pain, so I decided to do this surgery. I am facing this challenge because I want to continue my career,” said Veith.

This set back comes after only a few short months back on the circuit for the Austrian. She returned to racing in Semmering, Austria in late December 2016, more than a year after her initial ACL tear.  Veith’s best result this season was a third place in super-G at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

The Austrian Ski Team will provide further information on her recovery as it becomes available.
