Kelly VanderBeek suffered a broken wrist in training Oct. 18 and will be wearing a cast for a month as the injury heals.
According to her online journal at www.kellyvanderbeek.com, she touched her inside hand to the ground on a turn during super G training at the Farnham Glacier in British Columbia. The X-ray showed a fracture on the radial styloid process.
VanderBeek writes, “I’ll continue to train the rest of this camp with some modifications to my pole and taping my hand to it. After two weeks in this cast I hope I’ll be able to move into different casts that are more fitting for skiing and weight training. I should be out of the casts in about four weeks.”
She said she would be ready to race in the Lake Louise World Cup in late November.
Injuries have already hampered the Canadians. Genevieve Simard is out for the season recovering from knee surgery, while Erik Guay will miss the opening World Cup giant slalom races this weekend in Sölden, Austria.
