Vail athletes take top honors at Rocky/Central J3 JO downhill{mosimage}Vail athletes found their home hill to their liking at the March 7 Rocky/Central J3 Junior Olympic downhill at Vail, Colorado. The Ski Club Vail men swept the podium in the men’s race and and went 1-2-4 in the women’s, held on the same day.

In the men’s race, Hunter Schleper, who broke his collarbone just a month ago, edged teammates Cody Unicume and Kitt Flowers. Schleper was second in both training runs, but blazed down the hill to win by more than half a second.

Delainey Ackerman won the women’s race by more than half a second, followed by teammate Jocelyn Irwin, with Lovelend’s Taylor Verdun in third. Whitney Setterbergin missed a Vail podium sweep by .05, settling for fourth.

‘It’s pretty sweet. We’re letting everyone know this is our hill’ Ackerman told the Vail Daily.
