SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team announced the hiring of former All-American Jeremy Elliot as assistant alpine coach last week.

Elliot skied two years at Utah (2011, 2013) and earned All-America honors in giant slalom with a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2013. He had two wins and a total of eight career podium finishes for the Utes. As a senior, Elliot earned the David Allen Novelle Outstanding Skier Award, given to the top men’s alpine skier at Utah. He had to overcome three major injuries throughout his skiing career, including a knee injury that sidelined him in 2012.

“This is a tremendous development for us,” Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. “Jeremy had an outstanding academic and athletic career at the U and now with some coaching experience under his belt from last season, this is just what we were looking for. Jeremy has a huge amount of experience to share with the athletes and has always been very motivating. I am looking forward to having him on board. I think he will have an immediate impact with this great group of athletes.”

“I could not be more excited that Jeremy is joining our staff,” Utah head alpine coach Jaka Korencan added. “He had a very successful college career as a racer here at the U and I know that his own experience and knowledge of NCAA ski racing will help our current athletes excel both on the slopes and in the classroom. Jeremy is a hard worker, extremely passionate and knowledgeable about ski racing and I am really looking forward to working with him.”

After leaving Utah, Elliot raced on the NorAm circuit in 2014 for Team Geronimo. He spent 2015 as an assistant coach at Westminster College.

“I’m really excited to be re-joining the Utah ski team this year,” Elliot said. “I had an unbelievable experience on this team as an athlete and I’m really looking forward to working with Kevin, Jaka, and Abi [Holt] again with my new role as assistant coach. It’s crazy to see how much campus has evolved and improved since my senior season, including new buildings and some really nice training facilities for athletics. We have a really strong team for this year and tons of resources and opportunities for success. I have a good feeling about it.”

Elliot graduated from Utah in 2014 with a bachelor of arts in communication. He was an Academic All-District selection in 2013.
