PARK CITY, Utah — Fourteen athletes were named Saturday to compete March 7-11 in the 2007 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Austria, the U.S. Ski Team announced Saturday.
U.S. Alpine Director Jesse Hunt said the group includes seven young men and seven young women, including defending NorAm overall champion Megan McJames, who recently scored her first World Cup points in Europe.
“This is a really strong team and we have expectations of medals. Megan has shown how well she can ski and others have done well at the NorAm level — Will Brandenburg won last month and Travis Ganong won earlier this month, so we know they can perform, too,” Hunt said. “And we’ve got some younger juniors moving up to get some experience.
“We won the Marc Hodler Cup, which goes to the top overall team, at Maribor [Slovenia] in 2004 and we’ve got the potential to do very well again at junior worlds. So, it’s going to be interesting to see what takes place in Altenmarkt.”
U.S. Competition Director Walt Evans will serve as team leader.
