UPDATE: Olympic men’s super G resumes in Sestriere{mosimage}The sun came out and the Olympic super G got underway. Again.

And the winner was Kjetil Andre Aamodt of Norway. Again.

After 17 racers, the race was stopped, postponed, and started over in clearer conditions. And so the injured Aamodt won his third Olympic super G gold (he has won half of them now — three of the six since the event was added to the Olympic program in 1988).

Hermann Maier of Austria was second and Abrosi Hoffmann of Switzerland third.

Bode Miller caught a tip on a gate, nearly crashed, recovered, waited on the hill and then escaped from the media though a gap in the fencing.

Scott Macartney was seventh and Daron Rahlves ninth.

Canada’s Erik Guay was fourth, missing the podium by just a tenth of a second.

The race originally began at 11:00 on Saturday, but was called off after 17 racers because of snow and fog.

The race resumed again in the afternoon, with racer No. 1 taking his second trip down the course. The visibility cleared.

But the U.S. team’s downhill coach predicts that contention is likely.
