Tour de Ski: Follis and Northug win in Nove Mesto

Italian Arianna Follis and Petter Northug of Norway won the last sprint races of the FIS Tour de Ski in Nove Mesto, (CZE) today.

Taking the lead in the women’s overall standings was Finland’s Aino Kaisa Saarinen with a third place finish today. Also on the podium was Petra Majdic (SVK) in second.

Follis in now 17 seconds ahead of Majdic in the sprint rankings and 22 seconds ahead of Saarinen.

Northug won the men’s race ahead of his teammate and sprint leader Tor Arne Hetland. Christian Zorzi (ITA) was back on the podium in third. Overall leader Dario Cologna (SUI) finished fifth.

In the overall tour standings, Cologna increased his lead to 23,5 seconds ahead of Vassili Rotchev (RUS) and 32,5 ahead of Eldar Roenning (NOR).

Hetland is still leading the sprint ranking 11 seconds ahead of Northug.

The Tour Team Cup is led by Norway with a two and a half minute advantage on Italy. Finland is third.

Tomorrow will be the second rest day in the Tour de Ski. Races will continue Jan. 3 with the sixth stage in Val di Fiemme, a mass start race over 10 km (ladies) and 20 km (men) in classical technique.
