TOROC names new CEO and deputy CEO{mosimage}Expressing to Mr. Paolo Rota unanimous appreciation for the quality of the work done and for the results achieved up to now, the Office of the Presidency of the TOROC requested the Chief Executive Officer to hand in his mandate, with consensual modalities to be defined, to enable the TOROC to resolve the organisational difficulties that have characterised the past months of work.

The Executive Committee also acknowledged the charges presented by Mr. Paolo Rota toward the deputy CEO, Mr. Marcello Pochettino and invited the latter to re-examine his position.

At the end of the meeting of the Executive Committee, that saw the participation of all the entitled officials (besides President Valentino Castellani, the Under-secretary for the Government Mario Pescante, the Deputy President Evelina Christillin, vice presidents Pier Paolo Maza, Giovanni Petrucci and Bruno Rambaudi and members Franco Capra, Sergio Chiamparino, and Raffaele Pagnozzi), President Valentino Castellani and Under-secretary Mr. Mario Pescante announced that they have appointed Cesare Vaciago new CEO and Luciano Barra the deputy CEO.

‘This decision said President Castellani – has been taken following divisions that have occurred within the organisation in these past months, that have created a situation of serious operational difficulty, and for which it was our duty to find an immediate solution’.

‘With only 340 days to go to the Opening Ceremony added Under-secretary Pescante it was necessary to bring the entire structure back to a unity of intents and to find again the full agreement and commitment of everyone. The recent successes of the Sport Events and of the seminar of the Chefs de Mission of the National Olympic Committees enable us to look to the future with confidence’.

Cesare Vaciago can count on a long-time managerial career both in the private and public sectors in Italy. After covering the role of CEO in Poste Italiane from 1997 to 1998, he was named General Manager of Comune di Torino in 1998. From 1989 to 1997 he covered various roles in the Ferrovie dello Stato.

Luciano Barra covered the role of General Secretary for FIDAL (Italian Athletic Federation) from 1969 to 1988, then he was appointed General Manager in the department for High Level Technical Sports Activities in the CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) from 1993 to 2001. His career also accounts for a role as Top Event Manager for EAA (European Athletic Association) from 1997 to 2004. Luciano Barra has a strong experience in the world of sports and international events and he has also been part of the Coordination Commission for the Athens Olympic Games. He has been collaborating with the TOROC since November 2004.
