TORINO: Alpine: Downhill still tentatively on the schedule for Kildow, says boyfriendLindsey Kildow’s boyfriend said Tuesday morning that the American skier is in good spirits and hopes to compete in the Olympic downhill on Wednesday.

‘I think Wednesday is still on the table’ said Thomas Vonn, reached by cell phone on Tuesday morning. ‘She’s made sure to say don’t take me off the list. She wants to try. Whether she’ll be capable, we don’t know.’

Kildow got banged up in bad crash in the second women’s training run on Monday at San Sicario. She is expected to leave the hospital and return to Sestriere on Tuesday.

‘It’s going to be a play-it-by-ear thing to see how she gets back on snow’ said Vonn.

Vonn visited Kildow at a Turin hospital on Monday night and said she was in ‘pretty good spirits.’

‘She is feeling a lot better’ said Vonn. ‘At first it was really scary. It’s turning out to be that she’s really banged up. She’s going to feel like a train hit her, but there’s no ligament damage or bone breaks.’

If Kildow were to race, she would start behind the top 30 starters, which will be determined in Tuesday’s training run.

Kildow would probably start 31st because she is third on the World Cup Start List for downhill behind only Renate Goetschl and Michaela Dorfmeister, who will presumably finish in the top 30 today.

Kildow’s crash reflected an injury trend that has wiped out Johann Grugger, Mario Scheiber and others this season.

In other injury news, Kristina Koznick will try to ski on Wednesday. Koznick injured her knee two weeks ago at Ofterschwang, and is the top medal hope for the U.S. in the women’s slalom.
