TARVISIO, Italy — Italian skier Denise Karbon will miss the rest of the World Cup season because of a leg injury, the Italian team said Friday.
Karbon, who won the bronze medal in giant slalom at the World Championships in Sweden last month, hurt her right leg when she straddled a gate in training Thursday.
Karbon is the fourth top Italian skier forced out by injury this season, following Davide Simoncelli, Giorgio Rocca and Nadia Fanchini.
Fanchini damaged ligaments in her right knee in Sierra Nevada, Spain, last weekend, and will undergo surgery.
Rocca, the defending slalom World Cup champion, had surgery on his right knee last week. Simoncelli hurt his right knee in January.
Karbon has already undergone six operations during her career and missed several seasons.
