Tarvisio: Broken leg KOs Austria's Zettel
Austrian skier Kathrin Zettel will miss the rest of the World Cup season after breaking her leg in a crash Friday.
TARVISIO, Italy — Austrian skier Kathrin Zettel will miss the rest of the World Cup season after breaking her leg in a crash Friday.
Zettel lost control during the downhill portion of a super-combi race while landing the final jump, within sight of the finish line. She sliced through two layers of safety netting and was carried away on a stretcher.
''She broke her tibia, but fortunately did not damage any ligaments,'' Austrian Alpine Director Hans Pum said.
Zettel is seventh in the overall World Cup standings. She won two giant slaloms earlier this season in Aspen, Colorado, and Semmering, Austria.
