In announcements made today(April 29), the Swiss National Ski Team has elected cross country skiers to be members of their squad for the coming season, while the Russian Ski Federation made a similar announcement from Moscow.

Named to lead the 2011 Swiss National team will be their star performer, Dario Cologna of Davos. He will be joined by Toni Livers, Curdin Perl and Remo Fischer. Their sprint team will consist of Christoph Eigenmann, Martin Jager, Jori Kindschi and Valerio Leccardi. Following the retirement of longtime ladies team skier Laurance Rochat, Doris Tracshel is expected to slide into the top spot. She will be joined by Silvana Bucher and Bettina Gruber.

Russian skiers nominated to National team status will include a mix of internationally known skiers along with some emerging talent. The Russian Ski Federation will have a men’s distance team lead by Alexander Legkov, Maxim Vylegzhanin, Artem Zhmurko, Peter Sedov, Konstantin Glavatskikh, Ilia CChernousov, Evgenly Belov, Alexey Vitsenko, Raul Shakzianov and Alexander Bessmertnyh. Below won a silver medal in the 10km CL at the FIS Junior World Nordic Championships.

On the women’s side, the Russians will nominate Irina Khazova, Natalia Korosteleva, Evgenia Medvedeva, Valentina Novikova, Natalja Iljina, Alevtina Tanygina, Julia Tchekaleva, Olg Kuziukova and Svetlana Nikolaeva, all of these skiers, plus the sprint teams will be training as a group thru the summer and fall.
