WINTER PARK, Colo. — The 2008 Winter Park Open wrapped up three days of competition Wednesday for disabled alpine skiers with a U.S. sweep of the women's sit-ski super G.
Reigning World Cup SG champion Laurie Stephens (sit-ski) led the group with a time of 1:33.28, followed by Ricci Kilgore (sit-ski) who finished at 1:34.73. Luba Lowery (sit-ski) rounded off the podium at 2:07.32. All times are adjusted.
Australian Shannon Dallad upset Tuesday's winner in the men's sit-ski SG. Dallad took first in 1:18.17 just ahead of two-time World Cup SG champion Chris Devlin-Young (sit-ski). His second-place time was 1:18.97.
In the standing category, with a time of 1:29.14, Allison Jones had the lone U.S. podium, finishing second. She was almost three seconds behind winner Karolina Wisniewska of Canada, who's time was 1:26.80.
John Whitney added some excitement to the men's standing SG field, with an unexpected second-place finish at 1:23.06. The men's field was led by Morgan Perrin of Canada at 1:21.96.
"The field was extremely competitive. We have some young guys like Whitney popping in there from the back of the pack showing that he's got potential to be part of our team and we're excited about these newcomers," said U.S. disabled alpine head coach Ray Watkins. "For our team, it's competition not participation."
