The Steamboat Winter Sports Club names two alpine directors{mosimage}The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) has selected Chris Puckett as its new Alpine Competitive Director, the SSWSC Alpine program’s top position. Puckett, who has been coaching at Steamboat for the last three years in full- and part-time roles, will now be overseeing Steamboat’s Post Graduates, J1, J2 and J3 programs.

Puckett was a U.S. Ski Team member for 13 years, during which time he competed in giant slalom at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, and in both slalom and giant slalom at the 1993 and 1995 World Championships.

Chris and his wife Wendy and their two sons, Cole and Cooper, moved to Steamboat four years ago. Wendy runs a Pilates business and helps train SSWSC athletes in this effective core-strength training method.

SSWSC has created a new position to streamline management of the approximately 450 athletes and 60 coaches that work in the Alpine Program. The new “Youth Program Director” position was recently filled by longtime Steamboat skier John Marno. John was an SSWSC racer in the early 80s, and then moved on to collegiate skiing at the University of Wyoming, where he was a member of the 1985 NCAA Championship Team.

After college, John stayed in Wyoming, where he coached at Jackson Hole, taught high school and ran the Snowy Range Race Team. He is currently a successful software developer and is excited to be bringing his wife Lisa and two children, Max (J3) and Anna (J4), back to Steamboat.
