SKI RACING INTERNATIONAL — publisher of Ski Racing magazine and skiracing.com — has announced its first venture into athlete sponsorship. Publisher Andy Hawk has announced that the company has purchased the headgear sponsorship for U.S. Ski Team athlete Resi Stiegler for the remainder of 2006.
“Resi is a talented athlete with a great attitude,” Hawk said. “We see this as an opportunity to gain a fantastic ambassador for the Ski Racing brand and we are excited to have her on board in time for the upcoming women’s races in Aspen.”
Stiegler, a 21-year-old Wyoming racer, was Ski Racing’s 2005 U.S. Alpine Junior Skier of the Year. She has already accumulated 23 top-20 placings on the World Cup, the bulk of them in slalom. Her best result is a fourth scored last season in the World Cup Finals at Are, Sweden.
“Resi truly represents what ski racing should be to our young readers,” said Gary Black Jr., chairman and CEO of Ski Racing International. “She does a lot of hard work but has a ton of fun whether freeskiing, competing or just living life. In looking at the way she handles herself both in and out of the sport, she seemed to fit well with the entire idea of the new Ski Racing and skiracing.com. I am excited that she has agreed to represent the organization.”
Stiegler has been a member of two World Championships teams, placing sixth in slalom at Santa Caterina in 2005. She was 11th in combined and 12th in slalom in her first Olympics last season. She finished the 2006 World Cup season ranked 15th in slalom.
Stiegler comes with a pedigree — her father, Pepi, won three Olympic medals for Austria in the 1960s.
Resi will wear the Ski Racing logo on her helmet in time for the North American leg of the World Cup circuit, beginning with a GS and slalom at Aspen, Colorado, Nov. 25-26. Stiegler also is sponsored by Dynastar, Lange, Look and Leki.
Ski Racing magazine is the globally recognized Journal of Snowsport Competition, and skiracing.com is the world’s No. 1 source for daily news reports, videos, photo galleries, forums and more in the world of snow.
