For the second straight year, Andrew Weibrecht tops our list of the 100 best juniors in America, and for the second straight year, it is a very narrow margin between Weibrecht and the top female competitor. This year, the top woman is the U.S. Ski Team’s Chelsea Marshall. Some names from last year’s list are gone, but many remain.
While we can continue watching last year’s top juniors such as Resi Stiegler on the World Cup circuit, they have moved on and are no longer youngsters. However, this year’s list contains many rising stars. A handful of juniors are on the U.S national team, and sixth-ranked Christopher Beckmann raced his first World Cup at Lake Louise last week.
We ranked the skiers based on the first FIS points list of 2005-06, equating those rankings to the World Cup race scoring formula. Therefore, Weibrecht, who had the second-best downhill points out of the juniors, received 80 points. He received 60 points for having the third-best slalom points, and 100 points for being the best in GS and super G, totaling 340 points. For this list, athletes are not separated by sex.
