In the May 7, 2008, issue of Ski Racing magazine, a story in the Ski Club Spotlight department referred to Sunday River Ski Resort as the “premier eastern ski area for FIS races.” That statement was inaccurate as fellow Maine resort Sugarloaf in fact hosted more than three times the number of FIS races as Sunday River during the 2007-08 season. The tally on the International Ski Federation web site shows Sugarloaf hosted 26 FIS-level races last season, including the U.S. Alpine Championships, while Sunday River hosted eight.
