Ski Cross: Steffen and Gutensohn win in Meiringen-Hasliberg

Austrian Katharina Gutensohn and Swiss Andreas Steffen won World Cup ski cross races today in Meiringen-Hasliberg, Switzerland.

Gutensohn claimed her second career World Cup win ahead of overall leader French Ophelie David in second and Canadian Julia Murray in third. Gutensohn now stands second in the World Cup ski cross standings 331 points behind David.

American Langley McNeal finished 36th.

Steffen out ran Canadian Christopher DelBosco in second and Frenchmen Xavier Kuhn in third for his best World Cup finish ever. His previous best was an eighth-place finish at St Johann in January.

World Cup leader Tomas Kraus finished ninth. DelBosco stands second in the World Cup rakings.

The top American man was Jake Fiala in 23rd followed by Casey Puckett in 27th.  No U.S. ski cross athlete has won a World Cup race this season.

The men will have another go at the course tomorrow in a race that replaces Thursday’s lost Grindelwald event that was canceled due to weather.

The World Cup ski cross season concludes in La Plagne, France March 20.
