The World Cup ski cross season had its second competition today under sunny skies in Les Contamines, France.The World Cup ski cross season had its second competition today under sunny skies in Les Contamines, France.

Austrian Andreas Matt took the top spot ahead of teammate Markus Witter who finished third. Canadian Christopher Delbosco also landed on the podium in second. Matt, who finished second in Monday’s competition, now leads in the World Cup standings.

American Casey Puckett, who finished second on the same hill a year ago, finished 17th.

“We’d always like get out front and establish it, then just pull away but that, unfortunately, didn’t happen today,” U.S. ski cross coach Tyler Shepherd says. “It’s coming along, it’s only two races in and we got a long season ahead.”   

U.S. racer Jake Fiala finished 32nd.

The women’s podium was topped by Norway’s Hedda Berntsen followed by French Ophelie David in second and Austria’s Katrin Ofner in third. Canadians Danielle Poleschuk and Kelsey Serwa had top-ten finishes in fifth and seventh respectively. American Caitlin Ciccone finished 24th.

World Cup ski cross action continues on a similar course in Flaine, France Wednesday before shifting to North America for races in Lake Placid, NY and Cyress, BC in late January and early February.
