SmartWool was honored yesterday by SnowSports Industries America (SIA) and the U.S. Ski Team as the recipient of the sixth annual Doc DesRoches Award at the SIA show in Las Vegas. The company’s socks have been keeping U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team members warm and dry since 1997.

“SmartWool has been a truly valuable partner for our athletes,” said U.S. Ski Team president and CEO Bill Marolt. “First, the company has taken an essential product like socks, talked to our athletes about their needs, and put significant performance enhancements into its product. And this year, SmartWool has expanded in a licensing program to take our brand out on its products to over a million consumers.”

The award is named in honor of SIA pioneer, Doc DesRoches, who died in 2003. He was a long-time supporter of the team and helped develop the U.S. Ski Team’s early fundraising efforts. The award is presented annually to recognize marketing efforts by a supplier around the U.S. Ski Team brand and athletes.

“Beyond being a phenomenal partner, the U.S. Ski Team provides us with a level of connectivity to world-class athletes that helps us continue to develop superior performance products through athlete feedback and recommendations,” explained Mark Satkiewicz, SmartWool vice president of sales.
