SIA hits the Big Apple for Summer Snowdown{mosimage}While temperatures in Manhattan were approaching a humid 90 degrees recently, members of SnowSports Industries America brought visions of pristine snow-covered mountains to top NYC-based journalists.

Dubbed the SIA Summer Snowdown, SIA and its public relations agency, Stanwood & Partners PR, organized a media showroom in a Manhattan studio, highlighting the hottest ’07 winter-sport trends. The Summer Snowdown was created to support one of SIA’s biggest goals of moving winter fashion, equipment and accessories at retail.

More than 50 journalists from 40 newspapers, magazines and television outlets with a combined circulation of more than 150 million received a hands-on preview of winter 2006-07 product from Betty Rides, Billabong, DaKine, Descente/DNA, Head USA, Helly Hansen, Holden Outerwear, K2, Nils, Ogio, Orage, Ride Snowboards/CAPP3L, Planet Earth, Seirus Innovations, Sessions, SKEA, Ski Metrix, Smith Optics, Snow Angel, Sport Obermeyer, Spyder and Uvex Sports.

A large, modern loft space in Manhattan, with expansive views of the Hudson and the city skyline, provided the backdrop as journalists mingled with industry representatives, asked questions, tried on product and collected information for their upcoming winter issues.

“We were thrilled with how the event turned out,” said SIA’s Alicia Allen. “This was our first attempt at targeting NYC-based journalists with a showroom and both journalists and manufacturers appreciated the format and timing of the event — providing trend information when journalists are working on their winter articles and holiday gift guides. After giving them a taste of the industry, we hope to recruit many of these journalists to the show next January to see other SIA members’ products.”

SIA 2007 will be held Jan. 22-25, 2007, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
