Longines awarded its annual Rising Ski Stars prize at the World Cup Finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. As in the previous season, the American and French shooting stars Mikaela Shiffrin and Alexis Pinturault claimed the awards.

Both received a trophy, a cheque for 20,000 CHF and a Longines Conquest Classic watch, representing the precision, the technique and the elegance of the sport of alpine skiing.

“It’s a really cool prize because it awards the youngest skier which has been standing out all season. I have had an amazing season and this award is the (icing) on the cake. It’s great,” Shiffrin said.

Created in 2012, the prize is awarded to the best young athlete, female (under 21) and male (under 23), taking part in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, reflecting Longines’ continued support for young athletes.

“It’s a very special prize and a good motivation,” Pinturault commented. “When you arrive at World Cup level you are young and to win this award is a challenge. It creates good competition between the younger athletes and makes us come up even faster.”

The Longines Rising Ski Star prize forms part of several activities undertaken by Longines to support youth through sport and to encourage the discovery of young talent. With its slogan “Elegance is an attitude,” Longines particularly supports young people in several sports, including tennis and equestrian alongside alpine ski racing.
