Raich, Schild wed in private ceremony
After 11 years of dating, slalom champion and record holder Marlies Schild and Olympic gold medalist and world champion Benjamin Raich got married in a civil ceremony on Saturday surrounded by immediate family. Schild has adopted Raich’s surname as a result of the union.
Schild retired from competitive skiing at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season and has publicly expressed interest in starting a family. The couple owns a house together in Pitztal, Austria.
Raich’s future in the sport is still an unknown as he has yet to formally announce his intentions to compete in the 2015-16 World Cup. He finished fourth in giant slalom in Soelden and Beaver Creek last season and also found the podium in third at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, totaling four top-10 finishes on the year.
