Rahlves and McCarty win national championship super G{mosimage}Daron Rahlves and Bryna McCarty are the new national champions in super G. Each of them won their respective race at Mammoth Mountain, California, on Saturday.

“You gotta make ’em work for that stuff,” said Rahlves, asked why he didn’t slow down intentionally to give the younger skiers a chance to come close to him and improve their rankings. “I’m not here to sandbag.”

McCarty, for her part, said that the win gave her tremendous confidence at the end of the season. Known as one of the best gliders on the World Cup, she mastered a difficult turny section at the bottom of the hill. “I’m just going to celebrate mentally,” she said. “I’m feeling really good.”

There was some wind at Mammoth today, as clouds moved in and temperatures started dropping in the afternoon.
