Radius Shock

In the last generation there has been no controversy in ski racing like that surrounding the altering of ski specifications being initiated this season on the World Cup, Continental Cup and at World Junior Championships.

“They fear that it will no longer be possible to carve clean turns. It will for sure be a lot harder, but as long as you have a hard surface you can still bend the skis enough to pull a good radius,” said Aksel Lund Svindal. “And this is where I fear that the FIS have made a big mistake. Good race conditions means equal conditions for everyone. This is impossible in skiing, but we try. I’m sure you all have seen ski racing where it’s very clear that start number and conditions have [a] big impact on the fi nal result. Now conditions will probably be an even bigger factor.”
