SAVANNAH, Ga. – Former U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) President and CEO Bill Marolt was honored by both the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) and SnowSports Industry of America (SIA) at the NSAA’s annual conference in Savannah, Ga. The NSAA honored Marolt with the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with the ski industry throughout his career, including overseeing the record-breaking performance of USSA athletes at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

“The NSAA Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for those individuals who have made lifelong contributions to skiing and and snowboarding. By any measure, Bill is a deserving recipient of this most important award,” said NSAA President Michael Berry.

SIA also presented Marolt with a Recognition Award for his efforts to promote sport alongside the SIA. Under Marolt’s leadership, USSA athletes won 70 of the 95 Olympic medals the organization has earned throughout its history. The success of the team in recent years has resulted in unprecedented media coverage for the sports of skiing and snowboarding in America.

“Bill’s perseverance towards a vision has uplifted the entire industry through the success of great snow sports athletes. He saw the U.S’s potential to become the best in the world and met that goal by focusing on athletics and cultivating valuable partnerships with suppliers and resorts,” remarked SIA President David Ingemie.

From winning NCAA Championships as a collegiate athlete to serving as University of Colorado Athletic Director and leading the USSA, Marolt has had a large impact on the ski industry. In accepting the SIA award, Marolt thanked the industry for its support of the Gold Pass program and of USSA athletes.
