THE NORWAY POST reported that reigning World Cup overall champion Aksel Lund Svindal has resumed skiing — albeit gingerly — for the first time since sustaining serious injuries in a training run crash at Beaver Creek, Colorado, in November.
He just “slid” down the slope, and we’re not at all talking about a training session, said Norway’s national alpine coach Marius Arnesen. Arnesen added that it will still take another couple of weeks before Svindal has his first serious on-snow workout.
Svindal sustained several fractures, facial lacerations and deep gash on the back of his leg during the crash. He said he began active rehabilitation in early January.
The coach said he believes Svindal will be 100 percent fit and ready for the start of the next World Cup season in late October.
