NCAA: Vermont adds Weaver to nordic staff

Patrick Weaver, a two-time U.S. national champion in cross-country skiing, has been named the new assistant nordic coach at the University of Vermont.
PATRICK WEAVER, a two-time U.S. national champion in cross-country skiing, has been named the new assistant nordic coach at the University of Vermont.
    “I think Pat is going to be great addition to our staff,” Vermont nordic head coach Paul Stone said. “He has a wealth of experience from EISA racing while at UNH to the Olympics and World Championships after college. He will be a great coach and mentor for our team and I look forward to working with him."
    Weaver was a member of the U.S. Ski Team from 1995 to 2000. He also is a two-time Olympian in cross-country, having competed in the 1998 Games in Nagano and the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.
    Weaver won U.S. cross-country titles in 1998 and ’99, and he was part of the U.S. cross-country teams for the World Championships in 1997 and 1999.
    Prior to joining the U.S. Ski Team, Weaver was an assistant nordic coach at his alma mater, the University of New Hampshire, from 1992 to 1993. He is a 1991 graduate of UNH with a degree in business administration. While skiing for the UNH nordic team, Weaver was named an NCAA All-American in 2001. He was recently inducted into the UNH Athletic Hall of Fame.
    Since 2005 Weaver had been operating his own carpentry and design business in Bend, Oregon. From 2004-2005 he was a personal nordic ski coach for Rebound Sports Performance Lab in Bend. He also won the National Marathon Series in 2005.
    “I am really excited to be part of the Vermont ski program,” Weaver said. “The college circuit was an important part of my personal skiing career and I look forward to helping the skiers at UVM have positive experiences as student-athletes. I look forward to working with the other coaching staff and helping to continue the success of the skiing program at UVM.”
    Weaver replaces Liz Hollenbach on the Vermont coaching staff. Hollenbach recently was named the nordic director at Bolton Valley Ski Resort in Bolton, Vt.
