A WIN BY Middlebury senior Alec Tarberry in Sunday’s giant slalom event wasn’t enough to pull his team ahead of Dartmouth in the overall team standings in the last day of competition at the 2008 Bates College carnival.
The Dartmouth women outscored the University of Vermont by a single point in Sunday’s giant slalom race, and forced Saturday’s slalom winner Middlebury to settle for a disappointing third place.
Freshman Courtney Hammond led the charge for Dartmouth on Sunday, topping the women’s podium over Vermont teammates Jilyne McDonald and Kara Crow. Saturday’s slalom winner, sophomore Veronique Archambault-Leger of the University of New Hampshire, followed closely in fourth.
Tarberry’s win wasn’t enough to help his team score higher than third in the men’s event, and Middlebury trailed Dartmouth and Vermont at the end of the day. Tarberry outpaced Williams senior Charles Christianson and Saturday’s slalom winner, Darmouth’s David Chodounsky, for Sunday’s top podium position.
With one team victory under its belt Dartmouth will look for a repeat performance next week at the St. Lawrence University Carnival at Whiteface Mountain and Mt. Van Hoevenberg in New York.
