Dartmouth moved into position to capture its second consecutive EISA victory to start the season Friday, taking the lead midway through the University of New Hampshire Carnival.
DARTMOUTH MOVED into position to capture its second consecutive EISA victory to start the season Friday, taking the lead midway through the University of New Hampshire Carnival.
    As a team, the Big Green won the men’s giant slalom and the men’s 10-kilometer and women’s 5 km Nordic freestyle events to rack up 387 points. Vermont and New Hampshire tied for the win in the women’s GS, with Vermont holding second place in the overall standings with 350.5 points. Middlebury is third with 341.5.
    Dartmouth’s Michael Sinnott won the men’s 10 km for the second straight week, clocking 23 minutes, 47 seconds at the Jackson XC course. Bates’ Sylvan Ellefson was second (24:07.2), and Dartmouth’s Ben True third (24:14.9). Zachary Hall (sixth) and Glenn Randall (ninth) also punched top-10 results for the Big Green.
    Sara Studebaker (19:19.6) and Susan Dunklee (19:40.2) finished 1-2 for Dartmouth in the 5 km. Emilia Demarchis of Vermont was third (19:43.2). Dartmouth again led the way with four finishers in the top 10 (Kristina Trygstad-Saari, fifth; Elsa Sargent, eighth).
    In alpine racing at Attitash, New Hampshire freshman Veronique Leger-Archambault won by more than a second-and-a-half, clocking a two-run time of 2:22.57. Vermont’s Kara Crow was second in the GS for the second straight week, finishing in 2:23.98, and Middlebury’s Megan Hughes was third in 2:24.60.
    Dartmouth’s Evan Weiss and David Chodounsky waged a heated battle in the men’s GS, with Weiss pulling out a win by 0.08 seconds in 2:17.76. Middlebury’s Alec Tarberry finished third in 2:18.08.
    The carnival concludes Saturday with the Nordic sprint races at Jackson and the slalom races at Attitash.
