The University of Denver’s John Buchar won the slalom at the Colorado Invitational in Steamboat Springs  on Sunday night, completing the alpine sweep after capturing the giant slalom title Saturday.
“We got out of the weekend what we needed to,” DU alpine head coach Andy LeRoy said. “Certainly Buchar skied very well, and some of the other skiers put some results that could help them toward NCAA qualification. That said, team-wise we left something on the mountain and did not ski at the level that we’ve been training.”
The host Buffaloes did seize the lead from the Pioneers on Day 2 with 278 points, while Denver sits in second with 259. CU had trailed Denver by 20 points after Saturday’s GS. New Mexico sits in third with 252 points, followed by Utah (242), Nevada (235) and Alaska-Anchorage (205).
The cross-country portion of the CU Invitational will take place in two weeks at Snow Mountain Ranch outside of Winter Park.
Colorado’s Lucie Zikova cruised to a win in the slalom, beating second-place Malin Hemmingsson of New Mexico by 1.69 seconds. The win was the 11th of Zikova’s career, tying her for third all-time in wins by a CU skier; she is already the record holder for the most victories by an alpine woman.
