Megan McJames had a lot to prove this season, to herself and the world. Cut from funding by the US Ski Team she partnered up with some in similar circumstance, raised the funds to continue her ski racing career and set about earning her way to the top.

Monday (March 18) she won the Nor Am title and in the bargain gained automatic start berths on next season’s World Cup tour. From there she’s got a far better chance of advancing.

The tour win was by 208 points, and she gained 240 in the last two days of competition with a pair of wins and a sixth place finish.

She kicked off the final sprint of the Nor Ams, a four race series at Squaw Valley, finishing second to Canadian Marie-Pier Prefontaine (March 16) in a GS, then followed up March 17 with a GS win – by more than half a second – over Mateja Robnik of Slovenia and Prefontaine in third. That result left her second in the final GS standings behind Mikaela Tommy of Canada.

What remained was a super G and combined. Abby Ghent won the super G trailed by Leanne Smith and Julia Roth. McJames finished sixth and finished the season tied for second in super G with Anna Marno behind Jacqueline Wiles.

With the overall title in hand she proceeded to win the combined over Prefontaine and Roth and pad the margin a bit.
