U.S. Ski Team racer Paul McDonald finished 16th on Friday in the second of two Europa Cup slaloms run in the indoor SnowWorld in the Landgraaf, Netherlands. Hailey Duke, meanwhile, finished fifth in a Europa Cup slalom run in Germany on Friday.

    A day earlier McDonald became the first U.S. men’s racer in two years to finish top three in a Europa Cup race with a second-place finish in the first slalom.
    Sweden’s Hans Olson won Friday’s race, edging France’s Anthony Obert by .04 seconds. Swede Magnus Andersson was third, 0.15 back of Olson. McDonald was 0.48 off the pace in the one-run event.
    In women’s Europa Cup action, American Hailey Duke was fifth in an indoor slalom run in Neuss-Bottrop, Germany, on Friday. Duke was the only U.S. finisher in the race won by Austria’s Anna Fenninger.
    In a FIS race run on the same hill, Fenninger topped the field and Duke was sixth. American Katie Hitchcock finished 53rd and Caitlin Ciccone 61st in that race.
    Saturday, Duke finished 12th in the second indoor Europa Cup slalom. Germans Katharina Duerr and Monika Springl finished 1-2. In the second FIS slalom run Saturday, Duke was second behind Fenninger, with Hitchcock 49th and Ciccone 62nd.
