Keystone Super Series GS: Simonceli wins, Ligety, Marshall in top 10{mosimage}KEYSTONE, Colo. – American Ted Ligety continued his emergence as a solid giant slalom skier Tuesday, finishing seventh in the second Super Series GS of the young season at Keystone resort with teammate Jesse Marshall in eighth place.

Davide Simoncelli of Italy, who tied for fourth Monday in the opening GS, won with a time of 2 minutes, 20.02 seconds, edging Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht (2:20.09), who had the fastest second run as light snow began falling in the second run. Third place went to another Italian, Alberto Schepatti (2:20.64).

Ligety, who produced the best result of his career five weeks earlier when he was eighth in the season-opening World Cup GS in Soelden, Austria, had a two-time time of 2:21.73, while Marshall, returning from recurring back problems last season, finished in 2:21.77.

The field was heavy with Europeans who are getting in final training before the tech races over the weekend at the VISA Birds of Prey World Cup races at Beaver Creek, Colorado.

The Super Series openers also mark the debut of Keystone’s new River Run race arena. Two more races are scheduled – slaloms Wednesday and Thursday.
