From the U.S. coach’s point of view that was probably a good move.

“The first couple of days we were here were blue bird. We’ve had cold nights and warm days so it helps to run early,” said men’s coach Randy Pelkey.

Hopefully the race, bumped 24 hours, will be started on time. “All our guys moved up (from their FIS point assigned start numbers) in training,” said Pelkey. “It’s a technical hill that suits the guys that are here.”

It certainly suited Wiley Maple who registered the fastest training run. Pelkey said the downhill is being held on the World Cup course and should provide plenty of challenge.

“It comes at you,” he said. “These are high speed downhill type turns. We’re running the real deal here, starting just below the Kandahar start.”
