Just last summer, Jean-Baptiste Grange was toying with the idea of ending his career. Today he is the reigning world champion in slalom and has extended his contract with the ski company Fischer for another year.

Following an intensive period of injury, Grange proved during the 2014-15 season that he still has a lot left in him. At the 43rd FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek, he took event the most ardent ski racing fans by surprise with his second world championship title after Garmisch in 2011.

The icing on the cake in his successful season came from the French winter sports community in the form of awarding him the highly coveted “Chrono d’Or,” the top award for the “Champion of Champions.” The winners of the award are chosen by an expert jury and the readers of the internet portal SkiChrono.com.

“I can still remember the emotions and the day of my victory at the [World Championships] very well. Also the feeling I had during the race, the stress and the pressure. In 2011 I was at the very top and then had to fight my way back after a long dry spell. It’s fantastic to receive such an award after this season. I’m now looking forward to the challenge of continuing to improve on my results in the new season and picking up where I left off. My equipment is perfect and my ski company gives me their full support. The whole team is great and I’m incredibly happy,” said the 30-year-old world champion.
