Racing Team has added a big gun to its alpine arsenal. Croatian racer Ivica Kostelic, 27, has signed a one-year contract with Fischer for his entire equipment package — skis, boots and bindings.
“This is a good time for me to change,” said Kostelic, who raced last season on Salomon. “With the new equipment, I’ll be fully motivated when the upcoming season gets under way. I tested Fischer for the first time at the end of February. I was very satisfied with the skis and the boots right from the start.”
The Croatian is planning to enter numerous World Cup races for 2007-08: “I want to make it back to the top again in slalom and be in the running for podium finishes in the super combined,” he said. “I’ll also be taking part in the giant slalom. A few downhills and super G’s are also on the list, but mainly as training for the super combined.”
Fischer Racing Director Siegi Voglreiter said, “Once again this is proof that we are world class — especially in the technical disciplines — and that we are on the right track with our full package. Ivica Kostelic approached us himself regarding a change. The thought never entered his head that he would not go for the whole package. This shows that our boots have already gained all-round acceptance in the World Cup after such a short time.”
Kostelic is the slalom world champ from 2003 and silver medalist in combined from the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. He won the slalom overall title in 2001-02.
