Herwig Demschar resigns from Torino organizing committee{mosimage}Herwig Demschar, the former ski coach and Olympic official, has resigned his post as the interim director of sport for the Torino Olympic Organizing Committee (TOROC). Demschar, who grew frustrated with TOROC, says that a successor in Italy has yet to be named.

‘They’ll pull it off, and they’re mostly ready’ said Demschar. “But there are too many people working in the kitchen, so the food isn’t good.’ Demschar, reached via cellphone by Ski Racing magazine, elaborated on his frustration. ‘It was like being a left wing on a soccer team and never getting a pass. You start to wonder why you’re running up and down the field.’

Demschar, who is Austrian by birth, coach the Austrian and American teams at the World Cup level. He was Picabo Street’s coach before he became the alpine director for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) in 2002, overseeing the venues at Deer Valley, Park City and Snowbasin. He says has no immediate plans.
