Call her a teen sensation. Sarah Hendrickson stamped her name in the record book today (Dec. 3) becoming the first female winner of a World Cup jumping event at Lillehammer.

Hendrickson all but made a mockery of the competition winning by 30 points over French jumper Coline Mattel. German Melanie Faisst was third.

“Winning the first World Cup gives me a really good feeling. I did great on my first jump and that was the base for winning. I didn’t have a good season last year but trained hard in summer and it paid off.”

In memoriam: The veteran of the staff, McKee started with Ski Racing in 1980. Over the seasons, he covered virtually every aspect of the sport, from the pro tours to junior racing, freestyle and World Cup alpine competition. He wrote the first national stories for many U.S. team stars, and was still around to report on their retirements. “Longevity has its rewards,” he said, “but it’s a slow process.”
