Gut injured during slalom training in St. Moritz
Updated at 2:50 pm CET: Switzerland’s Lara Gut was training slalom in preparation for the second run of the World Championship alpine combined on Friday when she fell. She was taken by Skidoo to the helicopter, which transported her to a local hospital. She has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a meniscus lesion. Since this injury does not require an immediate operation, the course of treatment will be decided in the next few days.
The 2016 Overall World Cup winner sits second in this year’s standings behind American Mikaela Shiffrin. She is also leading the super-G standings. In the week before the World Championships, she spent time off snow recovering from a gnarly crash in the Cortina d’Ampezzo super-G in late January. Despite the break, she was able to take the bronze medal home in the World Championship super-G on Wednesday.
