World Cup GS standings leader Denise Karbon of Italy fell in training Wednesday and broke a bone in her left hand.
    Karbon won the opening four giant slalom races of the season and finished third in the fifth race Jan. 12 in Maribor, Slovenia. She currently lead the giant slalom standings by 141 points over second-place Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.
    The Italian winter sports federation said Karbon would still go to Ofterschwang, Germany, for this weekend's races and will decide on Friday whether to enter Saturday's giant slalom. She has already decided not to race Sunday's slalom.

    Karbon won the opening four giant slalom races of the season and finished third in the fifth race Jan. 12 in Maribor, Slovenia. She currently lead the giant slalom standings by 141 points over second-place Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.
    The Italian winter sports federation said Karbon would still go to Ofterschwang, Germany, for this weekend's races and will decide on Friday whether to enter Saturday's giant slalom. She has already decided not to race Sunday's slalom.   
    The injury occurred in Pozza di Fassa in the Italian Dolomites.
    Karbon's career has been marked by numerous severe injuries.
