VALMALENCO, Italy (March 24) – Junior national champion Ali Kariotis took the highest dual moguls honor Saturday when she stood atop the podium at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships.

“I was really frustrated after yesterday, which really inspired me to do better today,” said Kariotis. “I got my nerves out yesterday and was feeling a lot more confident today. I just focused on each individual run. It means a lot. It was one of my goals for the season and after last year’s experience at Junior Worlds I knew I had the ability to win it.”

Kariotis beat Russian silver medalist Marika Pertakhiya in the final. Kazakhstan’s Yulia Galysheva finished third.

Kariotis, 16, capped off a record week of five American medals in moguls and aerials – the most successful ever for the USA – as the Junior Worlds came to a close in Italy.

USA medalists a the event included Kiley McKinnon (bronze aerials), Jonathan Lillis  (silver aerials), Bradley Wilson (gold moguls), Anna Park (silver moguls) and Kariotis’ gold.

Japan’s Rikuya Tanaka won the men’s dual moguls contest ahead of Sweden’s Fredrik Saterberg in second Russia’s and Alexsey Pavlenko in third.

Troy Murphy was the top American in fifth.
