It is our pleasure to host the 2008 USSA Freestyle Junior Olympic events March 5-9. We are very excited to host this week of events. Please read through the registration packet carefully and contact us if you have any questions.
A COUPLE OF QUICK NOTES FOR THE EVENT:
1- The entry fee of $350.00 for the athletes includes competition, lift tickets and the banquet.
2- If athletes have valid lift tickets for Steamboat Ski Area the cost for the athlete is $270.00 and includes competitions and the banquet.
3- Athletes must accept and register before the event by following the links and completing the registration page at: ussa.org (https://www.ussa.org/magnoliaPublic/other/junior-olympics.html ) The online registration process will be available Feb. 22 at noon MT and will continue until March 2 at 11:59 p.m. MT. Please refer to the Competition Guide in the Junior Olympics section pages 53 and 54.
4- All Athletes and coaches must sign the release of liability and waiver before they may compete. This is available on the registration page and at the sswsc.org web site
5- The athlete to coach ratio for the event is 8/1. For every 8 athletes the team will receive 1 free coach credential. Additional coach credentials may purchased for $170.00 at registration. 1-15 athletes equals 1 free coach credential; 16 – 23 athletes equals 2 free coach credentials; 24 – 31 athletes equals 3 free coach credentials. All coaches must have a valid USSA coaching license.
6- Lift tickets for immediate family members may be purchased at $15.00 off the daily rate for all mountain tickets and $5.00 off the daily rate for lower mountain tickets, during event days. These will be available at the group sales ticket office in Gondola Square.
7- For people that would like to watch any of the mogul events or the aerials without a lift ticket, it is a gradual 300-yard up-hill walk to the bottom of the venues from the Christie lift and bus stop.
8- We will be in need of volunteers for chopping landings and course work during training and competition for the aerial and mogul site. This is a great opportunity to earn lift tickets. For volunteering, you will receive a lift ticket to get you up the hill that day. For every 8 hours that you work you will receive a lift ticket that you may use during the 2007-2008 ski season. If you are interested in this please contact the Event Manager listed in the registration packet.
9- The last day to purchase banquet tickets is Thursday March 6 by 10:00am. The cost is $30.00 and can be purchased at the registration site both online till February 29th and in person till the deadline.
10- Each athlete’s bib will serve as a ticket for the banquet. Please don’t loose it!!
11- Sweatshirts are available to purchase for $45.00. If you would like to purchase a sweatshirt please complete the sweatshirt order on the registration web site. The last day to order sweatshirts is February 29th.
Steamboat Springs is a great town with plenty of experiences and activities for all ages. It is our hope that you have an enjoyable event and wonderful stay in the Yampa Valley.

Lift Tickets
Please keep your ticket stub in a safe place. This will serve as a receipt if you are to loose your lift ticket. The Organizing Committee will not be held responsible for lost Tickets.
Mountain Rules
Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation respectfully requests that all competitors and officials abide by all regulations that apply to the skiing public. No fast skiing outside designated competition and training venues.
Lift Rules
1. Competitors may not cut lift lines.
2. Competitors are expected to use proper etiquette in the maze.
-No cutting under maze ropes
-No entering a closed maze
3. Be courteous and respectful to all area personnel at all times.
4. No unloading except at designated areas, no jumping off lifts.
5. Please do not swing or bounce on the chair or Carrot.
6. Please do not use inappropriate language.
Competitors’ Lounge/Locker Rooms/Restrooms
There are no storage facilities available at Christie Base, b
ring a backpack and come prepared
for the days event.
Lockers and restrooms are located in the Gondola Building underneath the ticket office at the
Base area. Additional restrooms are located first floor at the top of Gondola and at Bashor picnic area.
Awards
Awards for the top 3 overall male and female will be in the finish area of each event day. All other awards will be given out at the awards ceremony held on Saturday, March 8th, during the Awards Banquet at the Steamboat Junior High School. The competitors will be admitted by showing their bib. Coaches and parents are invited to attend the banquet, although there are a limited number of tickets available.
To be assured of a ticket, place orders early. Tickets will be on sale through Wednesday, and until Thursday March 6th at 10:00am if still available, at Race Headquarters. Cost is $30 per person. Banquet tickets are cash or check only if not pre-purchased with entry fees.
Photos
Sharp Shooter, a local sport photography company, will be taking action shots of all competitors during the events. These proofs will be on display at their office, located in gondola Square and available for purchase at the Banquet.
Medical Information
The Chief of Medical Services will be John Kohnke, Director of the Steamboat Ski Area Ski Patrol.
Ski patrol at Mt. Werner can be found at the base of the Christie lifts and also at Thunderhead at the top
of the Gondola. There is a free shuttle from ski patrol to the Yampa Valley Medical Center.
The Yampa Valley Medical Center is located between Mt. Werner and Central Park Plaza Shopping
Center on Central Park Drive in Steamboat Springs. The phone number at the hospital is (970)- 879-1322.
A doctor is always on call and can be reached by calling the hospital.

The local television station is Channel 6 for local programming. Most motels and hotels have cable television.
Steamboat has a free daily newspaper, the Steamboat Today as well as a weekly paper, the Steamboat Pilot, published each Sunday; the Sunday paper is $1.00.
Parking
There is no parking at the base of the mountain. Please park at the Meadows Lot. The shuttle drivers will bring you to the Base area.
The Meadows Lot is located off the Mt. Werner Road Exit from U.S. Hwy. 40 on the right as you head toward the ski area. It is a free lot with shuttle service beginning at 7:15 a.m. The Knoll parking lot is in the south inside corner of Mt. Werner Circle, closer to Gondola Square. There is no parking at Christy Base or Thunderhead Express.
Security/Fire
Emergency police, fire and ambulance assistance can be obtained by calling 911. For non-emergency police assistance, please call (970)-879-1144.
Parent and Sibling Tickets
All spectators must stay outside the race area. Parents and siblings who wish to purchase discounted lift tickets may do so at Group Sales at the lift ticket office located in Gondola Square. Steamboat Ski Corp is offering a discounted rate off regular daily ticket price during event days only.

Transportation
The bus service in Steamboat Springs if free to all riders. A city bus schedule is included in the athlete welcome bags.

If you would like to purchase a sweatshirt please complete the sweatshirt order form on the registration page. They price for them is $45.00. Sized sweatshirts will be available in adult sizes.
