CABLE, Wisconsin — Two-time Olympian Lars Flora is on a tear as he continues to sail through Cross-Country SuperTour races before heading to the World Championships. He won both races over the weekend at Telemark Resort while Caitlin Compton and Lindsey Weier — also worlds-bound — split the women’s honors.
Sunday, with the temperature in the mid-teens, Flora captured the men’s 15-kilometer classic race in 37 minutes, 45.5 seconds, a half-minute ahead of Zach Violett, who races for the XC Oregon nonprofit club program. Completing the podium was Vahur Teppan of Estonia, a student at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
The women’s 10 km classic went to Weier, a two-time Olympian and a student at Northern Michigan University. She won in 27:44.6 with Laura Valaas second in 28:11.2. Lindsay Williams, also NMU and a 2006 Olympic teammate of Weier, was third.
Saturday, it was Flora overtaking local favorite Garrott Kuzzy to win in 21:34.1. Kuzzy, one of the top CXC racers with Compton and Valaas, finished in 21:52.8 in the 20-degree sunshine.
In the women’s 5 km, Compton won with a time of 12:10.3. Williams was second (12:28.1) and Weier finished third at 12:28.6.
