VAIL, Colo./FAIRLEE, Vt. — Ski Racing Development (SRD) and World Cup Supply (WCS) are now accepting applications for the 6th annual “Fast Skier” Junior Alpine Scholarship Award.

In addition to offering two awards (one male and one female U16 athlete), this year we are pleased to offer the proceeds from our successful Fast Skier Ebay auctions. Several autographed items from Olympians and World Cup stars, many of them one-of-a-kind, have been auctioned off with the proceeds to benefit the scholarship.

The award has provided assistance to four USSA U16 athletes over the past five years, all of whom exhibit the personal characteristics required for success both on and off the hill. Each 2014 winner will receive $1,250, an SRD race suit, and a WCS start coat.

As with prior years, the award recognizes dedication, talent, skill, personal integrity and a passion for ski racing. Academic achievement and community involvement remain important factors in the selection process as well.

“We took a large step forward in 2013 by doubling the scholarship and recognizing a deserving male and female. Now with the re-calendaring of the award and the help of Ebay auction, we’re pleased secure the future of the scholarship,” commented Jim Komarmi of WCS.

The 2013 scholarship recipients were Hannah Utter of the Green Mountain Valley School and Michael Cooper of Sugar Bowl Academy.

“Our goal with the Fast Skier Scholarship remains consistent over the past 6 years, to develop a grassroots support program starting with highly motivated young U16 athletes as they progress towards the U.S. Ski Team and possible collegiate, World Cup and Olympic level competition,” noted SRD founder Barry Levinson. “It has been wonderful to see this scholarship grow over the years and see these athletes progress not only in ski racing but academics and other off-mountain pursuits.”

This year’s application, found here, is due on Oct. 1, 2014 with the winners announced on Nov. 1.
