Fantasy Report – Week 2 final

The most incredible battle of the Ski Racing Fantasy Ski League Week 2 came from the Moser-Proell Division, and we’ll start with that game between the Balloon Animal Commandos and Hilary’s Hellacious Hardcore.

THE MOST INCREDIBLE BATTLE
of the Ski Racing Fantasy Ski League Week 2 came from the Moser-Proell Division, and we’ll start with that game between the Balloon Animal Commandos and Hilary’s Hellacious Hardcore.      The Hardcore, powered evenly with four scoring players, had Marco Buechel’s win in the DH column, a third from Peter Fill, 50 out of Anja Paerson’s one finish and another 20 from Genevieve Simard in the GS post for a grand total of 230, yet still managed to succumb to the Balloon Animals. The Commandos doubled up in both overall holes for the fantasy win with Kathrin Zettel pulling 145 from a GS win and a fourth in slalom while Tanja Poutiainen added 109 primarily from a second in the GS. Twelve more from Fritz Strobl in the DH position and the air-filled mammal attack force posted a stunning 266 total for the win, the division lead and a huge point-total margin. It will take weeks for the rest of the league to reel them in.

Elsewhere in the division the Birds of Pray — with their namesake course on the schedule horizon — and Interosseous Membrane kept pace, each picking up their second wins in two chances. The Pray downed The Blacks with mid-range scoring from Erik Guay, Michael Walchhofer, Zettel in the slalom position and Bode Miller in SG. The Blacks were decimated by DNFs and can only point to Michaela Kirchgasser’s third in GS for highlights. The Membrane survived a hard push from Ribbons by getting points in five of six categories, including 88 from Mario Scheiber in a two-race effort. The Ribbons rode Hermann Maier hard, getting 90 out of the old Austrian in a two-race overall effort, plus 50 in SG, but still fell just short.
The Destroyers — the league doormat a season ago and shut out in the opening week, roared into contention with a 157-point hurt on the White Circus Watch. The Destroyers had nobody above fourth, but had two of those from Hans Grugger in DH and Nicole Hosp in GS, adding 45 from Julia Mancuso in a two-race point grab. The Circus watch had a chance, but only Didier Defago with 42 in an overall spot could compete.

Stenmark Division

Sammy’s Slammer’s took control of the Stenmark Division with the same formula it had in Week 1, not scoring often but maxing out the totals when it did. Shut out after day one, it still had Marlies Schild in both the overall and slalom positions, then when she won her second slalom in a row, it was a strong 200-point total for the week and a win over Kevlar Lederhosen, which only missed scoring in one position. Still, Mancuso’s 36 GS points were not enough.
The defending champs doused the Smokin’ Mirrors and jumped into second in the divisional rankings. Team PMS had the GS winner in Zettel and the slalom runner-up in Hosp for 180, easily enough against the Mirrors, which suffered from having the wrong genders in the wrong positions for the week.
The Rand Corporation leads the 1 and 1 teams due to a 183 boost to the point total primarily on the skills of Hosp in an overall position and 130 points on her own. The Dumpster Divers tried to counter, and had a brief lead when Peter Fill got 60 DH points, but couldn’t match the steady pounding.
Rick's Rangers got a cheap win with 163, mostly from Buechel in an overall position, as the Hammers offered up nothing more than Michael Walchhofer’s 46-point two -ace showing.

Forum League

In the Forum League, Kashalot and Dewitt Cave show up leading the standings with their second wins, but third-ranked NY8739Jr leads everyone with a 410-point total, getting 100 from Buechel and 50 from Paerson in overall, another 100 from Zettel in GS and Walchhofer’s 26 DH counters. All of those points were needed, too, as Week 2 opponent MGB had Hosp in overall and Maier in SG, still just fell short.
Kashalot, with Shield’s win in slalom and Hosp in GS, had enough to stop the Skibums, who had Buechel’s DH win but got stung with just 15 from the rest of the roster. The Cave did serious damage to Extremeskier, overpowering Schild’s one-race point bonanza by getting 145 from Zettel and 26 from Walchhofer in the two overall positions.  Tristate made a move up the rankings, stopping Sbtski4 with a creditable 145 points from Hermann Maier, taking both of his races combined in an overall position and adding 40 more in DH. Sbtski4 got input from four positions, but needed two races to get 45 from Julia Mancuso in an overall slot.
